SUCCESS OF PAGEANT FAIR.

(By Telegrash.—Special Correspondents Paimerston North, February 18. The various Anglican Sunday Schools of tho district held their annual picnic at the Ashhurst Domain yesterday. The children and their friends were conveyed to the beautiful park by special train, and there were nearly a thousand present. Tho weather was beautiful for the outing.

About half-past one yesterday morning a dwelling-in'Cuba Street, occupied by Mr. H. Patrick, was discovered to be on tire. The fire brigade was quickly on the scene, and extinguished the blaze before very much damage had been done. Tho house, which is owned by Mr. T. Mitchell, was insured in the New Zealand office for .£3OO. The damage is estimated at about J!130.

Drew, the former heing well-known as proprietor of a job printing office, and tae latter a well-known journalist. iho directors of the Kairauga Dairy Company met yesterday to discuss the question of joining with other dairy companies in establishing a factory for the manufacture of casein from skim-milk It was decided to call meetings of tho suppliers to go further into the matter, the directors themselves being favourable towards the project. The Awahuri and othpr companies are also holding meetings within the next few days ■ The pageant fair in aid of the funds of the High and Technical Schools was brought to a close last night after a most successful run during- the week. There was a large attendance present during the afternoon and. evening, and good business was done. The result of tho fair will be that (with the Government suosidv) between .£IOOO and .£llOO will bo handed over to the Bon rd of Govern- ?£' am* w'.be sufficient, to wipe nut. the debt on the two institutions.
