Pathetic scenes were witnessed recently at Chesterfield, when tho funeral took placo of the five little girls who lost their lives by the fire in the dressing-room of the Chesterfield piclmv palace. A choral service was held at Chesterfield Parish Church, which was crowded, and thousands were unable.. lo gain admission. People were mas-cd together at every approach to (he church and along the route to the cemetery. It was tho saddest New Years Day scene t.ha.t has been witnessed in tho town for many years.
