FIRE ON THE QUAY.

OUTBREAK SOON SUPPRESSED. A five occurred at a few minute to four o'clock on Saturday morning at Messrs. Wliitcombe and Tombs' premises, Lambton Quay. The glare was first noticed by Constable Lamb, who immediately gave Iho alarm. By the time that the brigade arrived tho front shop was brilliantly illuminated by the (lames, which seemed to have secured a substantial hold. • . The firemen, using a chemical 01tiiiguishor, which was afterwards supplemented bv a hose for a few momenta, soon had tho outbreak quelled. The damage was confined to tho contents or lh<> shelves-stationery supplies, etc.—awl the casing of the lift-well was also charred.
