* WAIHI FEDERAL WINS THE SHIELD. Wt Telosraph—Pr'cs9 Association.! Gisbornc, February 16. The North Maud band contest was completed'this evening, and resulted as follows:— A Grade, first prize, carping £150 cash and Besson Shield—Waihi Federal, first ' test, 103; inarch, 91; second test, 95; total, 289, first prize; Palmorstan North (9k— ! 90—88—276), second prize and ,£SO. West- ' port Garrison (93—86—93—272), third prizo j and .£25.
B Grade, first prizo .£6O and Boos«y"s Shield—Gisborne City, first tosS (88; march, 87; second test, 90; total, 2G5), first prizo. Whangaxei (86—90—87—203), second prize. Wanganui City . (76—88—94—256), third prize. The medal for drum-major, A Grade, was won by Sergeant-Hajor Perrin, l'almerston; B Grade by Sergeanfc-ifajor Anderson, Wanganui. In the tenor horn solo, L. Jacobs (Wanganui City) got 49 points, and W. Norman (Gisborne City), 43; ten competitors.
88-Flat Bass Solo.—R. Spurdlo (Wanganui City), 49, 1; J. Neighbours (Westport Garrison), 48, 2. Five competitors. Tho side-drum ovent is to be taken this afternoon, and the final tost this evenit tr. As the weather is wet, the latter will probably bo held indoors.
