NEWS OF THE SPEECH.
THE OPPOSITION AMUSED. A FEW WORDS FROM MB. MASSEY. An informal meoting of the Opposition party was held yesterday morning, and another in tho afternoon after the delivery of the Governor's Speech. Tho Opposition is a remarkably solid and happy phalanx, and tho much-talkod-of bombshell has not in the slightest daunted their courage. On tho contrary, it has only amused them and strengthened their position. "Whatdo I think of it?" Tepeated Mr. Massey, in answer to a query regarding tho Governor's Speech. "It reminds ono of the ancient saying that whom the gods wish to destroy they first make mad. But, really, at a time like this, and after the electors have just passed judgment upon tho Ministry, it is almost an insult to tho intelligence of members and of tho public to have such transparent twaddle put forward and dignified by tho namo of a Governor's Speech. It is almost impossible to take the thing seriously, and in auy case extravagant promises mado at tho eleventh hour, when tho Government has no longer tho confidcnco of the country, will not atono for tho political crimes and follies of'past years."
