WEST COASTERS' PICNIC.
SI'ORTS AT DATS BAY. The West'.Coasters , ' Association were unfortunate in the selection of their date for the first annual picnic .which was held at Day's Bay yesterday', for, however nmch the rowdy elements may have reminded them of the land of their nativity, it was distinctly not picnic weather. Still they are sturdy folk, and they turned up 200 strong, to venture Across the troubled waters to the haven under the hill, where an interesting day was- spent. The Prime Minister and th? West Coast members were invited to attend, and a race was included in the programme for their especial benefit, bur owinj to, the circumstances connected with their Parliamentary duties (hey were nimble to be prcsMitj and forwarded apologies to say so.' During the day a sports programme was got through, as time and the weather dictated. Mr. Frank M'Parland figured on the printed programme as Chief Barrac.ker; Mr. J. f'usack was starter: Mr. C. M'Mnnus was "the man behind the gun": Mr. O'Kane. clerk of the course: and Mr. 0. .T. Pfaff officiated as secretary and hiindicappcr. The committee consisted of Messrs. Gye, Kyle. Wells. ■ Quarrie, Vinsen. Dunn, O'Kmic, M'Manus, M'Parland. and Kitchingham. The results were jis follow:— Boys' Race (under 12 yenr>)'.— F. M'Parland, 1; J. M'Manns, 2.
