FEATHERSTON ITEMS.

Improvements to . the Rimutaka. Road are in contemplation by the Featherston County Council. Plans and estimates of these have been forwarded to the Public Works Department for approval. It i« understood that several of'the awkward bends and corners are to be altered.

The Coronation Baths arc now finished, but the necessary . sheds and fencing have been held over, pending the decision of the Town Board on the question of raising more funds to defray the cost. It is prohable that the ratepayers will be asked to sanction a small loan for the purpose. Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Sheen, who have resided here for many years past, are leaving Fcatherston next week to reside in Pictojt.

The Featherston Bowling Club will send three rinks of bowlers to Carrorton on Thursday to play against tho Carterton Bowling Club. In consequence of the meat workers' strike, a. large number of sheep have been returned here during the Dast few ■'i.vs, iiind are now depastured about the district. ■ Drovers are (feeling the cessation of work through the stopmige of the-sheep traffic to Wellington. Farmers annrar to be taking the position quite, calmly, as there is plenty of feed, but in the event of wintry weather setting in early, which seems very probable, the matter'may beeomo serious,'more especially for the small sheen-farmers, who are usually stocked to their fullest capacity. The larger growers are better situated in this respect. Tho general oninion amongst farmers is favourable to the meat companies holding out against the demands of the strikers.

Complaints are made of furious driving of motor-cars on the back roads of this district, and some discussion took place at the last County Council meeting on this subject. It was mentioned that it would be a difficult matter to take stens to nrevent undue speed. Councillor A. Matthews has civen notice to move at lust, meeting that the question of registration of motor-cars by the council be considered.
