WATERSIDE WORKERS' DEMANDS.
(From a Correspondent.)Grcymoulh, February 1.1. The conference between the Greyinouta Wharf Labourers' Union and llio representatives of the various shipping comrallies trading to lireyuiouth was continued to-dav. It is understood that the two bodies'were unable to arrive at a satisfactory settlement. Tho owucrs submitted (heir proposals in reply to tho men's demands, but these were rejected. The conference is now closed. A lull nicotine; of the waterside workers is convened for to-morrow at 9 a.m., when the union will consider what action is to be taken further. ~,.,, ~ , ,i,. Tho "Slar" to-night slates that tho situation is a delicate one, and that Me«r< Semple and Webb have addressed the "workers. A section of tho workers termed the "moderates" strongly opposed the intervention of Messrs. fccmplo and company, but it is feared (lie ' extremists'l are in (lie majority. ,A feeling; of unrest pervades (ho community, especially anions snwmillcrs and those depending upon'die exports anil imports from and to Grcymouth. It is to bo hoped a satisfactory settlement can be arrived at.
