OLD BOYS' CLUB'S SPORTS. "TOD" SOLOMONS THE LION. The Old Hoys' Swimming Club was fortunate in securing perfect weather lor its carnival, bold at the TV Aro baths on Saturday afternoon. A capital programme had been arranged, and the accommodation for visitors was fully taxed, an added interest being lent tlie sports owing to the proximity of the New Zealand Championship meeting, lo bo held in C-hristchurch this week. The club was lucky enough, tuo, lo secure the appearance here of "Tod" Solomons, the Sydney "crack," who performed so brilliantly at Auckland last week. The visitor easily beat tho New Zealand record lor 50 yards, and his diving was a fine exposition of the poetry o) motion in mid-air. He taught (lie Wellington boys a trick or two in .starting diving, anticipating his time to a nicety on each occasion by leaning forward past the centre of gravity fully a second before his feot left the board. His method is quite legitimate, and something new to Wellington swimmers. His high-diving and polo plav was alx) a treat to watch. Walker anil Hall's Cup, allying squadron (relay) race was won by Thorndon, but much to tho surprise of those "in the know" the Wellington Club U'epresonto'd bv Crowther, O'Neil, Little, Murrell, and Stranger) came in a good second, with the Swiits and Old Boys' (cams tailing on behind. As a result of the test polo match, tho following have been selected to represent the Wellington Centre at the New Zealand Championship meeting to be held at Christchurch on Thursday next:—Kirkwood, Levy, Hamia, Morpeth, Jenkinson, llealy, and Stratford. The B team won scoring 4 goals to 2. Healy and Stratford scored one goal each for A team, ami Solomons (2) and- Hanna (2) scored for the winners. The 'greasy boom contest (comic) was won by Scott, and Salek won the musical lito-buoy competition. AN INVITATION RACE. The Thorndon Swimming Club intend holding an invitation fifty vards race tomorrow evening. Messrs. "Tod" Sullivan and H. Abel, of Sydney, will compete, with a view to lowering the' record ■ for' tho distance in the Thorndon Baths. The existing record is 25 seconds, registered eleven years, ago by R. Cavil], of Sydney.
