« FEDERAL STATION OPENED. Bj roleeraeh—Press Association—CoDyrteht i Melbourne, February 10. The Governor-General opened the wireless station. Tiord Denmaii dispatched a message to Admiral King Hall on 11.M.5. Drake, at Hobart, also In the Governor of Tasmania. The Federal Premier (Mr. Andrew Fisher) declared lhat the opening of the station was the first link of a chain which was to eventually encircle Australia. The Postmaster-General (the Hon, C. E. I'Vtuor) said that he recognised Australia was behind the times, but if had been beset with difficulties which were not yet clear. The Government, however, was determined to push the schemo to completion. If it was found they were infringing anyone's rights they would be prepared lo pay anything in reason. He hoped fhe slntion at Hobart. would bo ready in five weeks' time, and Thursday Island and Port Moresby stations by tho end of the financial year.
