The Hon. J. A. Miliar is to arrive in Wellington by the Main Trunk express to-day, and Mt. Ngata is expected to arrive by the Napier express on Monday night. The othor Ministers are in town. Mr. Chow S. Lanchu, Chinese Consul for Now Zealand, is visiting Aucklniid. Mr.. C. P. Skerrett, K.C., who has been on a visit to Auckland, returned to Wellington last evening. Tho Chief Justice (Sir Kobert Stout) returns to Wellington to-day. Mr. Justice Sim is expected in Wellington next week. Mr. C. H. Poole, late member for Auckland West, in conversation with a representative of tli3 "Auckland Star" on Thursday stated: "There is no truth in the statement that I have been engaged by tho New Zealand Tourist Department to lecture in the Viiilcd States. I leave about the end of the month on a trip to England to attend to private business matters, but intend to go via Fiji and Vancouver, as I have consented to deliver addresses at the Lincoln C'hautaqua meetings in Illinois. I have to deliver 200 lectures in 100 days on New Zealand—its people, its scenery, and reforms." Mr. H. Shnrpley, manager of the Blackwater Mines, Grcymouth, intends leaving for England by the Tainui on February 22. Mr. and Mrs. C. H. M'Lean, of Napier, aro proceeding to London by the lonic, which sails from Wellington on March 21. Major Whitney was a passenger for Sydney by the Mcana yesterday. Tho Key. Father Jiaimon and the Rev. Father O'Sullivflu were passengers by tho fame vessel. Mr. J. F. Reid, of Elderslie (near Oamaru), lias booked a passage from Wellington to London by the Athenic, which leaves on April 18. Miss Doris Dall (daughter of Mr. G. B. Dall, Inspector of Post Offices), who has been studying vocal production under Madame Minna Fischer, in London, will make her first public appearance in Wellington at the municipal organ recital by Mr. Maughan Barnett in the Town Hall this evening. The Very Hev. Father Hoi ley, of Wanganui, who was for some time connected with the Thqrndon parish, and was subsequently parish priest at Blenheim nnd Napier, has been made a dean. The Rev. Father Doro, of I'almcrston North, has been appointed parish priest at Kaikoura, in succession to the liev. Father Johnston, who goes Home on a health recruiting trip. Father Dore -will be succeeded at Palmerston North by the liev Father Doolnghty, who arrived from Ireland a fow weeks ago. The Rev. W. Shircr and Mrs. Shirer returned to Wellington after a visit to Australia by Hie lloana yesterday. The death occurred at Greytown on Thursday of Mr. W. S. Maxton, eldest .sou of Mr. Mark Maxton, of that district. The deceased was only 27 years of age. Cable news has been received of the death of Mr. W. S. Eobison, late manager of the Bank of New South Wales at Christchurch. Mr. Robison, who was over SO years of age, retired from the service of the bank about ten years ago, eince whesi he has resided in England.
