MASTERTON NOTES.
(From Oui Special Correspondent.) Maslerton, February 9. 'J'ho Wellington-East Coist regiment of '•'"rritorials has been divided into two battalions. The first battalion, winch is commanded b'y Lieuk'ir.uit-Colouel liislop, will have its iieadiiuarters at Napier, ami the second bai.tnlinn, commanded by Maim- A. H. Charters, will have its lira'drnuu-tcrs at Mastcrloii. The second ballalbn will coinpri-;i! night companies, w-ith local ollteers as follow:—Woodvillc, Lieutenant WnrJrap; J)annevirke, Captain Davidson; Masterton, Lieutenant Ilaslain; l'carhoision, Lieiilcnant Saundors; Lower Unit, Captain lio ; sj Carterton, M ijor Skey; Pahmtua, f.'apta'n Os-i borne Tilly; Potone, Lieutenant Ruiulle. Captain Georgo W. Uriiddcll, of Che New Zealand Staff Corps, is appointed adjutant to tho battalion. The battalion will go into a seven days' camp at Takapau on March Hi. The monthly meeting of the Masterton District High'.School Committee was held last evenin;}. ThoMicadmastor reported the roll numbers as follow:—Main School, 622; side school, 17!); secondary classes, 02. l:'or the tirst week after the summer vacation, the whole school made the satisfactory attendance of 9t per cent. The number of names on tho Masterton Trust Lands Trust electors' roll now atnnds at 3511. This year, 131 fresh names have bfi-ji added to the roll. The uniforms for tho Masferton Territorials have arrived, and will bo distributed flt a parade this evening. Tho next sittin,? of the Supreme Court will be hold in Masterton on March 1 improbably in the new courthouse. Ho for, live civil iictiuns, two criminal cases, two bankruptcy motions, one appeal, and one petition in divorce have been set down for hearing. The cadets attending tho llasterton School have fired over 5000 rounds of omimuiitiiin on the scho.il range this season, the class-tiring, on the whole, being fairly satisfactory. A number of Jlastertbn people left for the Pahiatua A. and P. show this i"SThe headmaster of the Masterton District High School reported to the committee bst night that every candidate put forward in the Civil Service, and scholarship examination:; had passed. The committed placed on record its appreciation of the splendid results achieved' bv the school. Messrs. W. Pragnell, A. Hondry, and •T. Hunter are representing the Masterton Congregational Church at the conference which in being held at l'almcriton .North.
