CONGREGATIONAL UNION.
AT PALMERSTON. IDy Telegraph-Press Association.) Palmerston North, February 8. The annual meeting of the Congregational Union of New Zealand was continued to-day. Papers wero rend as follow:—The Rev. B. N. Thomas, of Nelson, on "The Organisation of Congregationalism in the Dominion"; the liov. A. Perkins (for the Rev. W. J. L. Closs, of Christchurch), "Organisation of Congregationalism in the City"; the Rev. R. Mitchell, "Tho Call of a New Country—the Christian Churches' Opportunity unci Responsibility." The appointment of the Rev. W. M. Trigg to Mangawni was ratified. It was decided to appoint Mr. J. G. Gibson to tho vacant charge in the Auckland district. Notices of 'motion wero given as follows:—(1) By the Rev. C. A. Lyon, of New Lynn: "That this council rejoices in the result of the first Dominion prohibition poll giving a majority of more than SO.OOO votes for prohibition. At the same time it views with alarm the steady growth, for some years past, of intemperance among young New Zenlaudors, and recognises the urgent need for renewed energy in the work of educating our young people in regard to the scientific and economic aspects of tho question, and a vigorous pledge crusade among young men as the best means of preparing for the next election."—Referred to the Reference Committee. (2) By Mr. A. T. Lee: "That the Hoard of Studies be requested to consider tho status of home missionary, and bring a report before the council."—Referred to the Reference Committee. It was decided to leave the appointment of delegates to the Triennial Assomblv of Australasia (to be held at Adelaide'in April, 1SI.1) to the Executive Committee.
