A projected departure from Napier for Wellington last night was the Vacuum Oil Cb.'s chartered steamer Falls of Orchy. The vessel should Enow up hero some time this afternoon, and, after putting out 50,000 cases of oil at this port, will proceed to Lyttelton and Dunedin. The Terrier, which is under chnrter to the British Imperial Oil Company, is due at Wellington about February 18 with a cargo of shell oil from Philadelphia. Messrs. Golliu and Company are local agents. FOR snir's ASHES. At the meeting of the Newcastle Chamber of Commerce on February 1. Mr. Langwill drew attention to the fact that at Cardiff steamers loading coal were given an allowance for the quantity of ashes on hoard at the time of completion. He advocated the adoption of the same practice in Newcastle. This would mean an additional forty tons of coal to many vessels, which was a matter of importance to owners and the coal trade, generally. The secretary was instructed to report on tho matter. Word has been received stating that the Tyser liner Niwaru arrived at Dunkirk on February 1 from Australian ports. She is bound for Liverpool and London. On her arrival from Foxton to-day the Queen of the South will undergo overhaul here. She will be placed on the Patent, Slip to-morrow, for cleaning and painting. The Nikau will occupy tli-s cradle on Tuesday, and the coastal steamer Moa will go up on the following day. Last evening the Putiki was engaged in lightering work from the wharf nt Wauganui to the Tongariro, which was anchored in the roadstead. Tlia Putiki leaves for Westport to-day to load for New Plymouth and Wanganui. An arrival in port shortly before noon yesterday was the Now Zealand Shipping Company's chartered stsamer Anglo-Mexi-can. Home loading will be completed hero, and departure taken for London on Sunday morning. Maponrika, s.s., arrived at Grcymouth from Wellington, via way ports, at 11 a.m. yesterday. Sli3 was to have left on the return trip at midnight. The New Zealand Shipping Company's Tongariro is due in port from W&nganui to-morrow morning. It is expected that tho vessel will clear for London at daybreak on Tuesday morning.
