'I'lio Borough Council ndvissd that it would cost lfoin .t!SO to .fc2oo to provide an automatic apparatus, ami at present funds would not allow. The ho.-e reel and new hose are to be ordered at once, provided arrangements ran be made for iiiiyment to be received in April, otherwise the matter would bo held over until tho end of tlio financial year. Mr. Hawthorn was accorded a vote of thanks by acclamation for his benefit picInn , entertainment. Tim secretary, Hγ. Baldwin, was appointed delegate to the lonferenco at Rotorua. Tin , Borough Engineer wrote pointing out that members of thn brigade have been filling tho water tanks on certain properties in the borough, which are not connected with the regular water supply. Albert Coiliiis, who pleaded guilty to a like charge, «as similarly dealt with. The borough inspector (Mr. T. Mills) prosecuted Alex. Summons for plying an unlicensed uuriago for hire. Defendant pleaded guilty, and was ordered to pay costs of the action (75.). Arising out of tho same case, L. Fleet was also charged with using the vehicle without obtaining a license for it. A conviction was also entered in this case. A further charge was brought against Fleet, namely, that he acted as a driver without having obtained a license. _Ur. Mills explained that the council had refused to grant ;v license to Fleet, as he had been previously convicted for furious driving. In this instance a iino of sa. was imposed, with costs 7s. Elizabeth Bergs, for whom Mr. Willis appeared, applied for a summary separation from her husband, Nicholas Bergs, on tho ground of cruelty and failure to maintain. Mr. Ayson, who represented •respondent, asked for an adjournment, as thoie was some chance of a settlement. This was granted on condition that the complainant was paid the sum of 255. per week m the meantime. Solicitor's costs were also allowed. Judgment was entered for plaintiff by default in the following undefended cases: —Georgo \Y. Morice v. Henry J. Day, j;iG (is. od., costs .El 55.; George A. M'llvrido, v. Arthur Miiclioll, £1 ISs. (id., costs 10s.'; F. Jenness v. William Cudby, ,CI, costs 55.; tamo v. James Turned , , XI, costs !>s. In flu; judgment summons cases, Josiah Diiwsou was ordered to poy the Hutt Valley Timber Company £7 3s. on or before February 21, or in default undergo seven days' imprisonment. Hubert Stevens, a single man, was ordered to pay John Young ..£(i 15s. on or before March 21, with the option of seven days' detention. Darrv Goring was ordered to pav to M'lloinmin brothers .Kl 13s. Cd. on or ..before March 21, in default seven days' imprisonment, and Robert Lucas was ordered to pay Eddie and Company the sum of .£2 on or before February 21, or in default spend three days in prison. Fleming Eoss (represented by Mr. T.evvey) claimed from J. Duggan-(for whom Mr. Ayson appeared) the sum of J;7 10=., said to be. owing for rent arising out of a lease of the Drill Hall. The sum of .£2 had been paid into court, and the Bench decided that there was sufficient proof iliat the remainder, which was the amount of one week's rent, was still owin','.
