The Federal Government has decided to act along the lines indicated by Mr. Fisher, Prime Minister, in connection with securing closer relations with New Zealand as soon as politics in the Dominion are more settled. It is believed that at first the proposals will be restricted to defence and commercial relations. Mr. Fisher lias stared that action will be taken on the linos of his motion at the Tlobart Conference. He considers a defence agreement should be made between the Commonwealth and the Dominion a« practically an immediate step towards closer political relations. Senator Pearce, Minister for Defence, has instructed the captain of tho Naval College to prepare particulars in connection with the proposal for the training of New Zealand cadets.
