T)r. ,T. 0. Closs, of Dunedin, died at the residence of Mr. C. Tringhani, Pigeon Bush, on Monday afternoon, after a short illness. The deceased arrived there last week on a holiday visit, and complained of pain when he arrival in Wellington from the south, but until Sunday last wa-s fairly well. Miss Ethel Irving, the brilliant English actress, and the members of lier comedy company, arrive from Sydney by the Ulimaroa this morning. They will leave for Auckland by the Main Trunk express at midday. Last night Mr. W. Wakelin, president of the Grocers' Union, kas presented by his fellow members with, a silver tea service, and a handsome china salad bowl. Mr. Wakelin is to be married shorthand the presentation by the union was by way of marking the event. Mr. P. Htilly, Conciliation Commissioner, leaves town to-day for Wanganui to hear the tailorp-sses' dispute there on Thursday. He will also sit with a Conciliation Council to deal with the plumbers' dispute at Wangauui on February !), at J'almerston on February 12, and at Napier on February 14. The Hon. James Ashton (ex-Minister for Lands, New South Wales), accompanied by Mrs. Ashton and Dr. Worrall, who passed through Wellington a few days ago, are visiting Taupo, Wairakei, ami Eotorua, en route back to Sydney. Sir. W. Murray, chairman of directors of the Christehurch Meat Company, returned to New Zealand by the liotonia yesterday. Mr. Murrav was accompanied by Misses N. and 0. Murray, and Master .1. ]{.' Murray. Captain Hose, who was at one time manager of the local branch of the New Zealand Shipping Company, was a passenger to Wellington from London by the Kotorua which arrived yesterday. He is accompanied by Mrs. ilnd Hiss Eo.w. They are hooked through to Auckland. Dr. C. V. Knight, chnirman of the Golden Bay Cement Company, and Mr. W. M. Hannny, managing director, left Wellington for Nelson yesterday on a visit of inspection bo the works al Terakohe.
