THE AGITATION.
Sir, —Now that the strike has ended, together, wo hope with the very refined literary speeches of Yotuig, Carey and Co., I would suggest that you continue to point out, as you have been endeavouring to do in your leading columns during the progress of this ill-advised strike, tho folly of such a body of men being led and prompted by a few box-orators, agitators and secretaries. The agitators receive from accumulated funds of tho men'a hard earnings a handsome salary. I wonde.r eveu at this early stage how many of these non-thinkers have compared their pay both before and during tho strike with that of their dignified secretary. It is said that a local strike infuser receives XIUO per annum—compare this with strike pay. Perhaps it is that the secretary returns to the men out of his £W an. amount over and above that which his supporters receive. Tho unions are said by the men and their leaders to be on a thoroughly sound and well-organised footing. To this let it l>e asked: "Arc their books audited by an expert auditor certifying same to be properly drawn up so as to exhibit a true statement of affairs of the union as shown by the books?" If so, is each and every man satisfied with the expenditure of his hard earnings? The l'umonr that a certain union is now practically defunct and would have to strike a levy should the Crown imposo a penalty surely requires some attention by thosa who will be called upon to pay up. —I am etc., • NON-AGITATOR. Wellington, February 5.
