BUSH FIRES EVERYWHERE.
EXTENSIVE LOSSES. By Telcffrapli—Presß Association—Copyright Melbourne, February 5. Bush fires arc everywhere. Wide areas of grass, and farm buildings, homesteads, and stock have been destroyed. One firo in the Victoria Ranges was seven milos long. One farmer lost four hundred sheep. Mr. Payne, tin apiarist, lost his home and three hundred hives of bees. Many fire fighters wcro overcome by heat, some were badly burned, and others injured by falling limbs. Vessels have been delayed owing to heavy smoke off the const, and in some cases were compelled to anchor for safety. DAMAGES J2100.000. Adelaide, February 5. The fires which were devastating the hill districts are now under control. The damage is estimated at .£IOO,OOO, including the loss of mnch stock. SHIPPING DISLOCATED. Hobart, February 5. There are destructive bush fires on tho hills round the city. Three cottages and a box factory at Gardner's Bay were destroyed. Similar reports are being received from many parts of tho island. Shipping is dislocated owing to tho denso smoko off the coast, and the heat is intense. SULTRY WEATHER. Sydney, February 5. Sultry weather everywhere prevails, It is extremely hot in tho wostern districts, and there have boon many tall registers. At Wentworth Hi degrees were registered.
