(Rec. February 5, 8.30 p.m.) Melbourne, February 5. Saturday's imbroglio at Sydney between Clom Hill and M'Alister is generally discussed. M'Alister declines to say anything. Clem Hill states that during the meeting M'Alister repeatedly insnlted him by criticising his captaincy, saying that it was the worst he had soen. Hill remarked, "If you repeat that I will pull your nosn." M'Alister persisted, and Hill slopped his face with a back-hander. M'Alister retaliated, and the fight occupied ten minutes. nill immediately Trrote ont his resignation of the sclectorship, and declines to act on the committee with M'Alistor. The Board of Control meets shortly to consider the imbroglio. THE DISGRUNTLED PLAYERS. WANT LAYER AS MANAGER, Sydney, February 5. Hanson Carter, tho wicket-keeper, interviewed, states that tho disgruntled players will wait till tho whole team is chosen, and will then consider tho question of appointing their own manager. If the team considers a manager besides the one appointed by tho Board of Control is necessary, and approves of Laver, whom the six desire, then the six will go to England; but they will not go unless Lavei' goes. It is understood that the cause of the outbreak was M'Alister's telegram to Hill during the third Test match, stating that if Macartney were chosen, Hill should stand out.
