CITY FIRES.
At half-past two yesterday afternoon n fire broke out at No. 8 Holloway Road. Tho building was used as a fruit shop and dwelling, and was occupied by Mrs. Sophia F-oulsen; Tho owner is Mr. C'olHiH. of Island Ray. Tho contents were insured in the Norwich Union for ,£1(10, ami it is believed that the building was insured also. The damage was con»iii.,d to a small room on tlie first floor, the contents beiug rather seriously damaged. It is stntf-u that Die room was uwd for ripening fruit, and contained a kerosene lamp for heating purposes. Hunches of bananas were suspended in the i-oom, and it is presumed that one of these dropped, and overturned the lump, thus causing the fire. A! half-past seven yesterday morning the Fire Brigade was called to 16 Constable Street, occupied by the Wellington Timber Company. A portion of a stack of timber, and tlie walls of the office were slightly damaged. The building was. insured for JJ6SO i.u the New Zealand Insurance Company.
