A MATCH POSTPONED. The Newtown Club hod arranged to play some Hataitai rinks this afternoon, but owing to the improbability of the tramcars being in commission tho dwellers in the valley have asked to bo allowed to cry tho match ofF until some future date, which Newtown has agreed to.

AUSTRALIAN CHAMPION COMING. With regard to a request of tho Old Boys' Club for leave to pay tho expenses of the champion Australian swimmer (L. Solomons) on a visit to Wellington, Mr. 11. W. Blick (secretory of the Wellington Centre) has received a telegram from tho secretary of tho New Zealand Swimming Council at Christclnirch stating that the necessary permission has been granted. It is now practically cortain that Solomons will be present, and will swim at the Old Boys' Club-carnival on Saturday afternoon next. >

AjHATEUR ATHLETICS.

PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIPS. The Bixth provincial championship meeting of tho Wellington Centre of the NewZealand Amateur Athletic Association will take place at the Basin Reserve, on February 10,. when tho following provincial championships will bo decidedlooyds., 220 yds., 410 yds., 880 yds., one and threo miles flat. 120 yds. and 110 yds hurdles, one mile walk, putting the shot, throwing hammer, hop, step, and jump, and high jump. In addition, schoolboys are catered for with two championships—looyds. and 220 yds., and tho two colleges will contest a 100 yds. and a high jump championship. In addition, the meeting will be a "try-out" from which tho centre selectors will choose (he AVcllington team for the New Zealand championships at Invercargill, on February 21. It will bo the occasion' of the first contest for the M'Villy Shield. Representatives of 'ill tho Wellington and several of the country clubs will compete in every event. Clubs and competitors are reminded that entries close to-night, but, on payment of double fees, entries will be received up till 0 p.m. on Monday. TARANAKI ASSOCIATION, (By Telegraph—Press Association.! New Plymouth, February 2. The Riflo Association meeting concluded to-day, in fino weather, though in a tricky wind. The Stratford match (seven shots each at 800, 900, and 1000 yards) was won by Private Gilshnan (Pa(ea). The Patca match (ten shots at 1000 yards) was won by Lieutenant Wills, A Company, Tarauaki Rifles, with a score of 47. Tho Grand Aggregato was won by Rideman D. Roots, of ICaponga, champion of New Zealand, with Lieutenant Wills was second with 300. The New Plymouth Rifle Club won (he Teams match, with 470. There were nine entries.
