SURVEYORS' INSTITUTE.

— < At the monthly meeting of the Surveyors' Institute Mr. Humphries, the president, took the chair. Others prosent were: Mr. James MacLaren, Mr. Davis, Mr. H. Sladden, and Mr. M. C. Smith. The first business dealt with was a letter from the Hokitika Committee, concerning a brcacli of a section of the Coal Mines Act and Mines Survey. It was resolved to writo for fuller particulars. Tlio committee next discussed a letter to the -Taranaki local committee, concerning a revised scale.of charges, and informing them that it was resolved to call in particulars from all parts of the Dominion, these to be available in April. The qualification of the local boards engineering officers regulating roads and bridges was also discussed. It was resolved to ask Mr. Laing-Meason to join tho committee., A letter of sympathy was scut to the family of Mr. J. A. Montgomerie, -of Reefton. Applications to join tho eomniitteo -were read from tho following:—Mr. A. B. Morrow and Mr. Shirley Baker. Mr. G. H. Davics and Mr. I'ortcous were .elected members of the local committee.
