THROUGH BOOKING.
SATISFACTORY PROGRESS MADE. The agitation for the adoption of a through-booking system whereby it will bo possible to consign under oiio freight a case of fruit from an up-country railway station in one island to an upcountry station in the other, is receiving considerable snpport from the Chambers of Commerce. At the request of tho Farmers' Union the Wellington Chamber circularised' the various Chambers on the subject, and already 22 replies have been received endorsing the proposals. Air. ,T. G. Wilson, President of the Dominion Farmers' Conference, waited on the railway authorities recently in connection with the scheme and was assured that the matter was receiving full consideration and that negotiations in regard to freight were still going on; also that as soon as things were arranged the Department hoped to bo ablo to accede to the request of the Farmers' Union.
