UNION COMPANY INCREASES FREIGHTS AND FAKES. (By Telegraph—Presa Association.! Dunedin, February 2. The directors of tho Union Company decided, in view of tho advance in wages recently grunted to waterside : workers and seamen, and other increases contingent on those, tlint it has become necessary lo revise the pretwnt rate of freight and pa-wage money. New Zealand coastal cargo rates will lie increased by 3d. to Is. per Ion; the intercolonial rates by Is. 3d. lo Is. Cd. per ton; and an addition of 5 per cent, will bo iiuulo lo all passage rates. . : jn making these increases, say the directors in an authoritative notice supplied to tho [hx-as, the company is not ppskinsr to recoup itself f<jr tho full additional charges, but tho company is itself absorbing one-third of the extra expens?. The increased rates take effect from February 15 in New Zealand, and on February 14 and 17 for Melbourne and Sydney respectively.
