MID-WEEK CRICKET.
FIRST ROUND ENDS. THE POSITION'S OF THE CLUBS. Last games in the first round of tho Wednesday matches were concluded at the Basin Reserve yesterday afternoon, and a comparison of tho positions of tho six senior clubs engaged shows that tho powerful Union combination aro now far ahead, their lead being no less than 12 championship pointe over any other eleven in the grade. Yesterday 'they romped over Post and Telegraph by nn innings and 51 runs. Tho result was largely duo to the performances of that sterling cricketer, Victor Harris, both with bat and ball. Ho bagged five wickets for 14 runs—tho best bowling figures in Wednesday cricket this year—and also played a sound innings for Sli not out. Pitted against Rivals, the Vivian eleven achieved a "two pointer" by 17 runs on the first innings. Tho feature of tho day s play was a free exhibition by Sullivan, ■ w-ho slammed up 74 before Dr. M'bvedy bowled down his wicket. Coriing's innings was also an attractive effort to watch.. '.'',■. ... .; , % Artillery got home against Oriental by 24' rums on the first innings.' When play v.as> suspended a- fortnight ago Oriental appeared to have a sporting chance, but Bombardier hmitli- proved a hard-man to dislodge, and he had practically pulled • i lla i c K °, ut of tho firo Wore Rvari sweptolt his bail with a "trimmer." This bowler ';iv heeled them'up" incapitalstvle all through and, his average of seven wickets for 48 runs was well 'deserved.- In Sl!Cp " d ■ 'WW M h GOT'"} , and JUlildowney were in scoring, mood.
