THE GLEN MORN TRAGEDY.
LAWLESS SENTENCED TO DEATH. By Teleeranh—Preas Assmtatton-eopyriihl (Rec. January 31, 9.15 p.m.) Sydney, January 31. Lawrence Lawless, a farm labourer, has been sentenced to death for the murder of Una Cover. The evidence showed that Lawless was of a brooding disposition, and the Corel's (mother and daughter) were his only friends. There was no reason for tho crime. Pleas that he was suffering from mental delusions were not upheld. On' October 23, Lawrence Lawless, a youth of 21 years of age, shot Una Cover and her mother. The daughter died almost immediately. Mrs. Cover's house was burned down, and thn body of the daughter incinerated. Lawless afterwards shot himself in the chest, but the wound was not dangerous. Tho tragedy was the outcome of a supposition on the part of Lawless that tho Covers induced a young womau to whom lie was paying court to throw him over. Lawless spent the morning at the Covers's house, 'and lunched' with them. He and the girl Una were some time. practising with a riflo the murderer carried. Mrs. Cover received three bullet wounds and had one of her eyes destroyed.
