PETONE BOROUGH STAFF.
APPOINTMENTS AND FRICTION. The Petone Borough Council have decided to retain the services of Mr. A. Webster ns Town Clerk. There were i 2 applications for the position, which were narrowed down to three, and subsequently to two. The voting'was equal, for the last two applicants—Mr. Webster and another—and, on the casting vote of the Mayor, the present holder of the position was reinstated. Thirty-four applications wore received for the position of assistant Town Clerk. The final appointment was not made, but it may bo stated that, there are four applicants in the miming. Out of eifrht applicants Miss Coulter. Potoi'.e, was' appointed lady typist. The council rose at 2 a.m. yesterday. It is rumoured that several councillors will tender their resignations in consequence of the action of the Mayor in exercising his casting The Mayor states that his action was in accordance with constitutional practice.
