AT THE DURBAR.

Sir,—One of the> latest Sydney files, "The Globe," gives a figure of keir Hardie, nlso hi* figure of speech, as taken irom the letter to the "Welsh Pioneer. Ho cavs: "Many of the Gaekwar of Baroda s fellow rulers have been taught to grovel before tho Throne, as becomes all approaching such a symbol of imbecility. The. Gaekwar of Baroda, .with American tradition before liini, keDt erect anil.turned his , back on the King, remembering that a man's eyes are in front, and that he is unskilled in the art of walking liko a crall. It is difficult to seo what else lie could have done. Historians will depict tlio Gaekwar as one of the. significant figures at the Durbar, not the King-Em-peror going through liis little part as a well-jointed automntum. The Gaekwar, in a calm-state, did all that was required as a gentleman,- but always remembering that his country was in the dust, refused to kiss 'the feet of his' oppressor." Now, sir, it is not so very long ago that a great deal of discord was fomented by this individual's blatherdash, when he was in India, 1 at his own little Durbar. In the copy of the photo given in the "Globo," Iveir Hardie seems to wear in the lapel of his coat the O.S.C. bodge. If so, I for one, as a member of the club, would like to draw the attention of all colonial members, who are loyal to the Throne, and to raise a protest against his being a member—as his letter is at variance witlr the rules of the club.—l am, etc., j : HENRY WALTON. 1 Waikanae, January '25. .
