He will ask tor reductions iu the Australian tariff on the following articles:—Agricultural implements, ammunition, boots, 6Jioes, metal manufactures, textiles, wearing apparel, vehicles, bicycles, and motors. llr. Ross, Commissioner for Australia, has reported that tho Australian Government is preparing to consider the tariff arrangements. Mr. Foster is prepared to go as a special representative to Australia to endeavour to conclude an agreement. THE AUSTRALIAN VIEW.' Melbourne, January 29. ' Tho Prime Minister (Mr. A. Fisher), in referring to tho Canadian reciprocity cable messages,-states that the Commonwealth Government wanted to meet a Canadian representative so as to talk over the matter. Until they understood ono another ttcy could not discuss terms of reciprocity. Tho Hon. P. G. Tudor (Minister for Trade and Customs) stated that he had not received any communication from Canada. • Mr. Foster's visit would be welcome, and tfould greatly facilitate tho preliminaries! Personally, he thought' that the Commonwealth Government was unlikely (o grant preference on any articles upon which a profitable trade has bedn built up by means of the tariff. If they could promote trade without injury, and with mutual benefit, it would be a splendid thing.
