THREATENED TRAM STRIKE.
(To tho Editor.) Sir,—Now that tlio tramway employees have threatened tho community witn a strike within a fortnight—a course wlioiiy unwarrantable in tho face of evidenceit is timoly to remind every citizen i'h.it ho has the power which, if exerted in (lio right direction, can lay low the pernicious influence of iho agitator, and bring (h<, tramway men to n sense of their dutv toward those who find their Svaßos. 'The cry of "Capital against Labour" has Wen raised in tins empty, frivolous dispute. It is moro bunkmn. Tho trnmwnv men' finding themselves benlen nt all point* on their trumped-up and consequenilv" rii futed charges against Inspector Viillcr, threaten to resort to the most barlwrmw ends for obtaining so-called redress This rodresa is Bought for their own anco, and tie inevitable loss of Kksek tiwy am apparently not prcnarod
to acknowledge honestly. However, we are not ,so much concerned with the • casus belli us the- line of action which every citizen' should 'follow.' in evont of tho Btriko being carried into effect It is this: I and maiiy others live sbmo miles out of , town. W« pftjppso 'to. "foqfc'it,'*'or uso whatever means'of locomotion, happens along in tho morning and at night." During the day in town we shnll save many pennies .by walking all tho qunrter-milo stretches now negotiated by a penny car. Please. note, "a* penny saved "is a penny earned," whethor in. .behalf of : private . citizens or the City Council; but the point is that monoy will' not thereby flow into tho lighting fund' of the Tramway Union, because'it will bo out of work, after haying proved, itself foreign', to xtjio welfare \ of tho people.'. In tho way suggested,'sir, .1 believe the public willhave'-the remedy in its own.hands.' Much as wo all deplore the consequences of a'labour upheaval, especially tho , misery for the wives and children', of the strikers, it is nevertheless necessary in .'the present instance to show that ."want of .tact-'r inan official is not »i sufficiently, good case for, inconveniencing the.public—l am, etc., ■-,■'• - Cl j'i* BOUNDARY.
