RECEPTION IN WASHINGTON. . By Telerraph-Presi- Assfciation-Cop.TriEtal ' Washington, January 2G. His Royal Highness the Duke of Connaught, Governor-General of Canada, spent forty minutes at the Whit© Houss informally chatting with President Taft. He afterwards received a return visit from Mr. Taft, who was accompanied by a single aide-de-camp. Mr. Bryce, British Ambassador to tho United States, was i.iosent. Cabinet officers wero presented to tho Duke, who later visited the Press Club, where ho was greeted uproariously. In a short .address his Royal Highness said ho hoped England and tho United .Stales would nliviys bo Ilia best of friends for tho good of the world.
