TYPOGRAPHICAL UNION.

IMPROVED CONDITIONS WANTED. The forty-ninth annual general meeting of members., of the ■Wellington ■Typographical Union was held.at the Oddfellows' Hall, Lambton Quay, Inst Saturday evening, vthoii there'was a very .lares attendance ot members present. Mr. G. C. Barker (president) occupied the chair. The report for the half-year e-nded December 31, 1911, was, considered, tho clauses being taken seriatim. After tho adoption of tho report as submitted, tlie following motion iws passed in reference to paragraph U:—"That this union agrees to the Auckland Typographical Union enterinu.into an agreement on the lines of tho letter submitted by the. executive of the New; Zealand federated Typographical Association." Tho statemenf-of receipts and expenditure for the half-year, the memorandum of liabilities and assets, and the mortality fund statement were adopted as printed and submitted. ; order of the business of the meeting was varied to .allow the members to discuss the notice- of motion that the union cancel its registration .under the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act, and that a ballot be taken in accordance with the rules to decide tho question. A long discussion ensued, during which the Arbitration Court was adversely criticised by a number of speakers, and an amendment was proposed and carried as follows: — 'That further consideration of the motion be suspended for three months, pend- ; ng the union's appeal to the einploeyrs for improved conditions of employment." As an outcome of the discussion on the preceding business, the following resolution was unanimously adopted:—"That this meeting of members of the Welling-' ton Typographical. Union regrets that the Wellington master printers have not definitely replied to the proposals submitted to them on .September 4,-1911, and that theoffer is now withdrawn, but the union is still agreeable for a conference before further steps are taken." It was decided to hold a special meeting of the union next Saturday evening to consider the proposed conditions of employment to be submitted to the employers in the AVellington industrial district. The election of officers resulted as follows-.—President, Mr. G. C. .Barker (elected unopposed); vice-president, Mr. Jambs Harper (elected unopposed); secretary-treasurer, . Mr. J. W. '. F. M'Dougall (elected unopposed); trustees (genernl fund). Messrs. D. Ryrie and T. MTntyre (elected unopposed),' trustees (mortality fund), Messrs. W. C. Millar ond .W. Sutherland (elected unopposed); auditors.. Messrs.' Frank R. Curtis (reflected) and. H. E. Ashby; board member?i. Messrs. M. A. Robinson, V. W. Srrift (re-elected), ttttcl K. A. M'lnt.vre.
