STONE FRUITS A DRUG. Stone fruits are quite a drug at the Allen and Blair Street markets just now. Peaches are coming forward every day from Alotueka, Hawko's Bay, and Nelson, but choice varieties are scarce. The usual small red variety is polling at Is. l()d. to 2s. (id. per box. Large yellow dessert are 'bringing 3s. to 55.; Japanese, plums are in heavy supply; small arc selling from Is. to Is. fid. per box, wliilo choice sorts realise up to 4s. 6d. per box. Hutt-growii;tomatoes are late in coining forward this season. Too much rain has given them a set-back, and tho value for "Nelson-grown lias advanced, prices yesterday for choice ranged from 9s. to lis. ' Nectarines arc in fair demand at ss. to as. 6d.; apricots, choice ss. to 75.; diamond plums, 3s. 6d. Melbourne pears are scarce this season, owing to light crops. Values yesterday ranged from 13s. to 15s. fid. per case. Water-melons are selling at Is. to 2s. each. ■ Auckland grapes sold yesterday at Is. to Is. 2d.; Nelson, Is. to Is. 3d.; local grown, Is. to Is. 4d. A shipment from Australia was cleared on Thursday at 10s. to 12s. per box of about 18lb., but they were not a very attractive lot. -Raspberries aro in good sale at ss. to 6s. per bucket. Green cooking,apples sold at 3s. to ss. per ease, and dessert 4s. Gd. to Bs. Passion fruit is in poor demand at 2s. 6d. to ss. per half gin-cass; American oranges are soiling, at Its. to las. per case. Greengages are in good request. Choice sold at'ss. to Ga. per half-case. Txieal strawberries are worth Is. Gd. per lb. In ..the vegetable section onions, Auckland grown, solil at Ts. to Ss. per bag. Vegetable -marrows. 4s. to Gs. per case; cauliflowers, ss. to Bs. sack; cabbages, 2s. Gd. to 4s. Gd.; cucumbers. 2d. to 3d.; green peas, Gs. to Bs. half-sack; french beans, 7s. to '. 10s. half sack; parsnips, ss. per sack; carrots, 2s. to 4s. sack; white turnips, Is. Gd. to 2s. 6d. sack; lettuce, 3s. to ss. case. Tho market for fresh eggs continues slow, the current value being lid. per dozen, with every prospect of a Id. drop next week.
