[Br Giencok.] There is every indication that Mallard (St. Ambrose —Parera) may turn out quite as good, if not better, than his halfbrothers, Boanerges, a frequent winner of weight-l'or-age races, and Xyland, who has a long string of handicaps lo his credit. Tho success of tho colt draws attention to his dam, and to the lucky purchase of her hy her prew-nt owner at the dispersal of -Mr. Friedkiidcr's stud some years back. The Foxton horseman, C. Price, returned home yesterday. Price has been riding in ; good form this season, and soveral good judges select him as tho best horsoman over battens at tho present time. His winning total is six, which, equals that of A. Julian and L. Hagerty. It is more than likely that Lady Moutoa and the other members of Mr. F. S. Easton's team at Foxton, until reoontly trained by their owner, will shortly be handed over to a private trainer. That good little gelding, Tho Rover, who won several important handicaps both on tho flat and over fences last seasou, is again an inmate of A. M. Wright's stables at; Foxton, but is only doing pottering work. The Ta.ka.pnna Club's summer meeting opens to-day. Woights for tho Egmomt mooting aw due on Tuesday next. It is stated that J. H. Pressor was acting for a well-known local sportsman when ho purchased tho Achilles—Strathspey colt at tho Waikanao sale of yearlings on Tuesday. Tho owner in question raced several horses a few years back, but latterly his colours have not been seen on tho racocourse. Jargon, a dual winner at the Taranaki meeting at Christmas, has been moro or less lame after working lately, and his ailment is puzzling Trainer 0. Cox. j Whilst competing at Woodville it was noticed that the bay horse moved very scratohily, so the trouble may have been coming on then. Sir Lethe, who has been spelling at his owner's station at Masterton sinoo tho last Dannevirke meeting, has again been put into work by J. Gravestock at Clarcville. The Hutt Valley Trotting Club met last evening and decided to adopt the suggestion for removing the trotting course from the Petono Recreation Ground to tho Hutt Park. The Trentham owner-trainer, J. Lowe, left: for Oamaru last night, in order to be present at tho dispersal sale of the Elderslie stud. F. Higgott has taken charge of the Sir Laddo—Rumour colt, purchased by Mr. Wadley at the Waikanao salo on Tuesday last. Tho sister to Peroneal has also gone into Higgott's stable. Both tho Bezonian yearlings disposed of at the Waikanae sale last Tuesday have gone into J. W. Lowe's stable at Trentham. ■ Prince Soult has several engagements at Ellerslie at Easter, and is therefore not likely to be seen at Eiccarton. It is more than probable, however, that ho will bo brought south for. the Manawatu Racing Club's Autumn meeting. Kohinoor was shipped south to Eiccarton by the Maori last night. FIXTURES.
