LABOUR PARTY DIFFERENCES.
| WANGANUI AND ITS PLEDGE. (By TcJeeraDh— Special CorreSDondent.l Wanganui, January 2G. The half-yearly meeting of the Wanganui branch of the New Zealand Labour partv was held last night. Mr. W. A. Veitch, M.P., was elected prcsiti,.,it, Messrs. J; T. Jfuir and W. J. Jordan vicepresidents, and Mr. C. Leigh secretary. \fter the ordinary businessliad been dealt with, the attitude of. tho Wellington Labour paper towards three of tho Labour members of Parliament was lengthily discussed, and a resolution, the terms of which wero not mado public, was passed on the subject. It was decidcd to request the Labour Conference next Easter to consider tho alteration of the constitution to provide for the abolition of a written pledge, the giving of full freedom to branches ill tlio selection of candidates, and the conduct of elections, and to provide for tho headquarters of the party being made movable from year to year. At. the next monthly meeting a selection will be made of a candidate for the approaching Mayoral election.
A MOVE IN PALMERSTON. (By Teleffraph—Press Association.) Palmerston North, January 20. At a well-attended public mooting tonight, an Independent Labour party was formed in Palmerston. Messrs. Veitch and Robertson, M.P.'s, addressed the gathering.
