A SERIOUS PHASUBRISBANE TRAM STRIKE. THREATENS TO SPREAD. By Telegrarli—Press Association—OoDyricfct Brisbane, January 26. The tram strike is assuming a more serious phase, and threatens to spread. A quantity of explosives was found on the line at Bulimba. A large stone was jammed between the points at another place. Tho Commissioner of Police has received threatening letters from sympathisers of tho strikers. The wharf labourers ceased work temporarily, and paraded the streets. The men carried a resolution to the effect that the waterside workers are prepared to assist in a general strike if necessary to force the Tramway Company to recognise the men's demands. A deputation from the Parliamentary Labour party waited on the Home Secretary (Hon. J. A. Appel) and the Minister for Railways (Hon. W. T. Paget), and asked that the Government should enforce the section of the Tramways Act, providing for an efficient service being maintained. The Minister stated that officially they wero unaware of the trouble, but promised to consider if such action was possible. (Eec. January 27, 0.25 a.m.) Brisbane, January 26. Many unions have appointed delegates to tho conference on Sunday to discuss the tram strike, with power to vote for a general strike if considered expedient. RAILWAY WOEKEBS. Perth, January 25. The railway engineers* strike remains unsettled. The navvies on the railway regrafling works have struck, demanding 10s. a day. LABOURERS' STRIKE ENDED. Adelaide, January 26. The protracted builders' labourers' strike has ended, the employers conceding thoir demand for 10s. a day. .VAUDEVILLE ARTISTS. Sydney, January 26. The vaudeville artists have formed a union. ' STRIKE OF CARTERS. London, January 25. Three-fourths of the carters employed on the Great Northern Railway, London, have struck, owing to the dismissal of a comrade for refusing to do , porter's work.
