CROWN LAND BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING,

The monthly meeting of tho Wellington Crown Land Board was resumed at tho District Lauds and Survey Office yesterday. There were present: _ Messrs. Jas. Mackenzie, - Commissioner- Crown Lands (in tho chair), J. Dawson, H._ T. Ellingh.nm, James Georgetti, and Wm. M Lennan. , , . - . In addition to that reported in yesterday's issue, the following business has been transacted by the board:— With reference to the proposed transfer of Sections 17, Block YIII, and 18, block IV, Tiriraukaiva, 400 acres, from Mr. John Fitzgerald to Mr. R. M'Dowell, postponed from last meeting, it was resolved to further postpone until next meeting. . With reference to the proposed transfer af Sections 19 and 20, Block IV, Mount Cerberus, 100 acres, and Section 14, Block XI, Makuri, 510 acres, from Mr. B. do Malmanehe to Mr. S. Sargent, the Commissioner reported that if these transfers all lake place Mr. Sargent will then hold 91G acres, and it was resolved . to approve. Mr? l l '. L. ICerr applied to transfer his licenses of Sections 5, Blocks X and XI, and 0, Block X, Mikitniki, 300 acres, and 71 acres 0 roods 29 perchos, respectively, to A.' Johnson, and .it: was resolved to approve..

A matter reopened tho. board, was an application by Casey and Rcid that resi'-. dcnce be accepted and.considered as.complied with in connection with' 72 Taihapo V.S.—lt was resolved to accept two years' residence in tent and, as applicants had also resided four years in a houso oh tho section, to consider -residence complied with. The Commissioner dissentod.

Mr. R. M'Leod applied to-transfer Section 9, Block XVI, fluaugarua Tablelands Settlement, 882 acres, to ; Mr. Howard Spooner. After both parties had appeared before tho board, it was resolved that if the report of the Crown Lands Ranger bears out tho value of improvements, and if all other matters are satisfactory, that the transfer bo approved by tho Commissioner. From tliis decision tho Commissioner dissented, but remarked that ho might possibly modify his views nftor tho report of tho ranger camo to hand. TRANSFER DISALLOWED. A report was received from the Crown Lands Ranger in regard to the proposed transfer of Section 9, Block V, Tiffin, Carrington Settlement, 03-1 acres, fromMrs- Fanny Parker to Mr Thos. Baker. i lr appeared for -Mrs. Parker n , , • Hornsby appeared as agent for Mr. Bakor.—Tho section was a lease under the land for Settlement Act, and in November last Baker offered to purchaso at .I'lol/0 odd, provided two Christchurch properties wero taken in exchange, and that ho could arrange .tnatice. Mrs. Parker was desirous of quirting the section for health repsons, ami subsequently ae«pfed a third Christchurch property also—tho three being valued at .£I4OO. In December, Baker entered into possession of the G34 acres, nnd Mrs. Parker teok ovor tho Christchurch properties, but the Land Board had not so far been approached to approve of the transfer. Baker now stated that he could not go on with the bargain as certain improvements which he understood belonged to Mrs, PaVkor were tho property of tho Government, and that being so ho could not raiso sufficient money on tho property to enable him to carry on. After both parties had hemi examined by the board, the Commissioner stated that the board was not concerned with tho question as to whether one or other of the parties had made a bad bargain. But in Land for ■Settlement, the Crown had to be sttro that the now tenant was as suitable as the one that was going out. The board then went into committee to consider tho position. Subsequently it was announced that the board had resolved to disallow the transfer.
