Of Tclerrapk.—Soecitl Corresßouititl Wanganui, January 26. The Wanganui Borough Council last night considered in committee proposals for tho enlargement of tho Wanganui Opera House. Official information as to tho.decision was withheld, but it is understood that thi council will be recommended to ask the ratepayers to authorise a loan of .625,000 for the purpose of building a new Opera House. Wanganui will soon be well provided with theatres, as a start is to bs made almost immediately with the erection of a new picturo theatre in the Avenue close to Hifl Majesty's. The erection* of still another theatre, which will be at the corner of the Avenue and Maria, Place, and will be three stories j high, is under way, and the site for it is already being levelled. The Wanganui Competitions Society met last evening, arid set up a committee to report on February 7 for tho drawing up 'of a programme and the raising of funds. The sum of .£3OO is aimed at, and it is expected that there will be no difficulty in raising the amount.
