It is reported here that Mr. i\ WaldeBrare, Commissioner of Police, is about to resign, and that he has booked his berth tor a trip to England. The foregoing report was submitted to Mr. Waldegrave hist evening, and he was asked whether it was correct. He declined cither to contradict it or to make any statement on tho subject. Mr. Waldegrave, in addition to being Undersecretary for Justice, has been the administrative head pf tho Police Department since. January 1. 11)10, when he took over Iho duties previously discharged by Commissioner Dinnie. Mr. Waldegrave •was born, in Wellington on October If, 1858. He. wna educated privately, and entered the Civil Service on July 1, 1874. He acted as private secretary to several Ministers, and became Chief Clerk of the Department of Justice in 1889. From 18!)fi to 1907 M.r. Waldegrave was Registrar of Pateuts. He is choirman of the Post and Telegraph Appeal Board, and a member of the Civil Service Guarantee Board. J.ast year Air. Waldegrave accompanied the Chief Justice (Sir Robert Stout) in hia official visit to the Cook Islands.
