"SHELTER SHED SCHOOLS."
AN AUCKLAND PROPOSAL. (El TeleeranW.—Prom Alßoclitlol.l Auckland, January 24. Mr. E. C. Banks, a member of th« Auckland Education Board, has made a suggestion to overcome the objection of the Education Department to tho erection of a school unless an attendance of more than a, score of pupils is assured, lie proposes that in new districts shelter sheds should first be. built to serve aa temporary school buildings until the full complement of scholars is available (or the use of proper buildings. Upou the erection of tho latter the temporary buildings might be used as shelter sheds. Mr. Banks went to tho extent of wailing on the Department in ordcT to present his proposal.
At to-day's meeting of the board the chairman, Jfr. Q. J, Giarkud, made favourable comment upon the suggestion. Hβ moved that in order to tost its efficacy the board's architect be instructed to prepare plans for a "shelter-shod school" to cost about ,£SO, anil that same be submitted to the Department with a i view to tho erection of n building in Hie district of Monmoukai. This course was unanimously agreed to.
