[Bi Glencoi.] 'the Wellington Racing Club's meeting will. be concluded at Trentham to-day, and, as good acceptances have been received for tho different events, the sport should be interesting. The principal event to be decided is tho Summer Handicap, one mile, for which a dozen horses have made the final payment, and a keen struggle should result. A special railway time-tablo will again, be observed, trains leaving Te Aro for the racecourse at 10.28 a.m. and 10.13 a.m., and leaving-Lamb-toil Station for (he racccourse at-10.J5 a.m., 10.55 a.m., 11.5 a.m., and 1.5 p.m. During (lie Foxton meeting, C. I'rice rode four winners;, M'Mullen, Lowe, and Cotton, two each; Lee, Hoult, Homes, Tricklebank, and Kemp, one each.; Owners are reminded that nominations for the Wanganui Jockey Club's Autumn meeting close this evening with the club's secretary, Mr. William Hall. "William I, who was formerly an inmate of the. Porirtia stable, won a rnilo race in Melbourne on January 12.

Two Now Zealand horsemen now resident in Melbourne—lt. Cameron and 8. O'Neill—intend paying a, holiday visit to the Dominion after the Easter meetings. The hurdlers Arquebus© and Obi are engaged in the Australian Cup. The last juniper to win that race was Realm, who previously won a Grand National Hurdlo liace, as did Marmont, winner of the 1904 Cup. Obi and Arquebusc are Grand National pinners. E. R. Telford will probably leave for Christchurch this week to bring north the Madder.colt, purchased by Mr. Highden at the November sales. Ngapulta was submitted to auction in Auckland last week, but was passed in when the bidding had reached 210 guineas. Heatherbrae, who won the Douro Cup at Trenthain on Monday; was heavily supported away from the course. Tho TreadiniH filly is not among tho acccptors for the Kaitoke Handicap to-dav. Her next appearance will probably be at Riccarton. ' . Capital nominations have been received for tho Tarauaki Jockey Club's . autumn meeting. Several of the Porirua horses have been entered for different events. Some of the Highden horses will'probably bo entered for tho Dunedin Cup meeting, which takes place next month. Mr. J. 1!. M'Donald, owner of Styx, has a foal by Gold Crest from Styx's dam, which is said to l>e one of the best-looking youngsters ever seen on its owner's station. Mr. J. Buckley will motor through to New Plymouth next month, and will visit tho Taranaki Jockey Club's autumn meeting. where Dearest and St. Petersburg will most likely carry his colours. Several horses which will be competing at Trenthain tu-day did not sport silk there on the opening days. They include Effort. Kohinoor, Hoyal Scotch, and Masterpiece.

I n every weight-for-a ? e rauc decided in ; .vdnov t In> season, tho first favourite has been defeated. I'rmn this it. v. ill be cleaned (says the ".Referee") that tlioso backers who beiie.vo that the oiilv w;iv to win money 011 the turf is to wait until the last moment, and baek favourites for 'fees of the weight-for-aee class, have experienced a rough time ,111 Sydney. In all, backers wore astray in connection with the five w.f.n. and two special weight mens of importance in Svdney, whilst in Melbourne. thev picked * three winners oulrigllt, ami, in a fourth ease, Uift winner shared favouritism with another competitor. A fifth race went to the second favourite, and the other two were annexed bv outsiders. . It rarely hapjwns that, the non-success of favourites in w.t.a. races in Sydney is marked, as has boon the case so far this season. but perhaps in the autumn backers will even matters to some extent.
