HOSPITAL BOARD MEMBERSHIP.

REDUCTION PROPOSED. The opinion has been freely expressed in tho past, both by homo of its oini members and by others interested, that the Wellington Hospital Hoard with its membership of 20, is an miwicldy body. Yesterday the board considered a letter from Dr. Y'nlintine (Inspector-General of Hospitals), in which lie enclosed a proposed new basis of representation, which Mould reduce the number of members on the board to 12. and asked tho board to let him have its views on the proposal. The composition of the board with its present strength, of twenty members is as follows:— Ilorowhcmia County and Levin Borough a Hutt County and Upper Hutt Town District 1 .Petone Borough 1 Lower Hutt Borough and Eastbourne Borough , 1 Wellington City - , Miramar Borough, and Karori Borough 14 Maknra County, 'Johnsonvillo Town District, and Onslow Borough 1 Total' '. 20 The following is the basis of representation proposed by the Inspector-General, under winch the strength of the board would be reduced to twelve:— Horowhenua County and Levin Borough : 1 Hutt County, Upper Hutt Town District, Petone Borough, Lower Hutt Borough and Eastbourne Borough 2 Wellington City, Miramar Borough, and Karori 'Borough :.... 8 Makara County, Johnsoriville Town District and Onslow Borough 1 Total 12 Sir. H. Baldwin said that it seemed to him that the board in its present strength was unwieldy. He was prepared to move that the Inspector-General's suggestion should be agreed to. Mr. H. C. Kirk (presiding) suggested that at least notice of motion should bi> given. The matter need not be dealt with finally until next April twelve months. ■ Other members endorsed this view, and tho matter was dropped, on the understanding that notice of motion should bp given by Mr. Baldwin on the lines ho had indicated.
