SUMMARY AND FORECAST. Prsseni indications are for freshening jiorthcrly and easterly winds, probably backing to south-easterly, shortly in the southern districts. The barometer is very unsteady, but with a temporary falling tendency, especially iu the north. Changeable conditions are likely to prevail, and misty rain is to be expected in parts. Rain fsll in many parts on Saturday and Sunday, and the' winds changed to southerly on Sunday, with a rapidly-rising barometer. Conditions improved on Monday. Variable breezes have prevailed since, and changeable weather to-day, but unsettled with rain on the We.st Coast of the South Island, B. V. PEMBERTON. Palmcrston, January 23.—Two or three light showers fell, hut the day otherwise has been fine, though threatening. Shannon, January 23.—Kain fell on Monday night. Tuesday was dull and showery. Otaki, January 23—Dull, with occasional light showers. Featherston. January 23.—Bright sunny dev; NWV. wind. Hastings. January 23.—T0-day has bacn bright and warm. -
