a SECOND DAY'S PLAY, THE PROVINCE TOURNAMENTi Iho Wellington championship am handicap tournament was continued to (lay in jjood 'weather. The courts playe( last and true, awl tho games wero rm uft without delay. Tho finals will bi played to-day. Swanston, .who appears to bo on tin top'of his form, met Fisher in tho cham pionship singles, and, winning tho toss took the first game otr his servico am the next off his opponent's. Then, re peating the performance, ho mado tin score "J love. ll© played some excellenl cross-court shots, Fisher netting frequent ly. Fisher* then played up hotter, und with some well-judged shots, mado th< score 4—3. In tho next game "deuce" was called five times, but then Fisher nettei' a ball, and Swanston mado the score s—! by a good passing shot. In the followinp game the score was "deuce" three times out Swanston finally pulled it off, thus winning the'first set, 6—3. In tho second set he had little opposition, and only losl one gams. ' • Miss V.'Bennett mads a good stand against Miss Travers. In the second sel the score was B—6, but tho ex-champioc is apparently not playing in tmo form .She had 'a very even contest with Mis; Van Stavcren—who played splendidly— and when "sot all" and "t all" was called, it was hard to say who would b( winner. Miss. Travers, however, jusl pulled tho match out of the fire, and came home, 6^-t. The Brown-Hawkins and Fisher-White Parsons double proved an exciting and even, match, some good rallies taking place. The scores—S—6 and S—6—showed (he difference between theso two pairs. Salmond and Swanston did not do toe well against Peacock and Gore, Salmond failing frequently. In the ladies' handicap donbles, Misses Curtis and Bennett look, like winners. Tho.final of .the men's championship doubles, between Fisher and Wnite-Par-and Peacock and Gore, provided a very interesting-contest. After "set air had been called, and when the latter pair led 4-rl in the last set, it appeared as if tho • match were practically over. Fisher and White-Parsons worked un safely, however, and "four-all" was called, then "five," > "six," and "seven all.' ftpither pair seemed able to secure the necessary two games. But,'at this'stage, Peacock and Gore, operating off the former's service, won the next game off White-Parsons's serve, and thus pulled off tho matqh, and now hold the Wellington championship. All four players were in good torni. The final of the Ladies' Championship Doubles saw. tho meoting of two very equal pairs, Misses Nunuelev and Williams .and Miss Travers and Mrs. Goldie. Point for point was called. Misses -Nunneley and Travers. drove well, and Mrs. Goldie and Miss Williams plaved safely at the net. The equality of tho players was shown by the fact that each pair won a set—six—fo,nr. The third set was characterised by a strenuous Htruftgle, Miss Travers and Mrs. Goldio leading. <I—2. Then Misses Nunneley and Williams pulled up, and "i all" was called, but the former pair wero too safe, and pulled off- the set, 6—4, and thq ma'tch. They are now holders of the Wellington, championship. Men's Champion Singles. First round.—Jeffrey beat Cleghorp, 10— 8, 6 —3.
