Bishop said that there had previously been many meritorious cases that it had been impossible to recognise, owing to the long period that had elapsed, and it would be impossible under the rules to recognise the present case. It was decided that the claim could not 1)0 recognised. „ „„ , In the case of J. Faulkner (16 years), who rescued C. J. Brown (40 tvom drowning at Auckland c-n October 1-. 1911, it was'decided, owing to the special gallantry in connection with the rescue, to grant a bronze medal.
