ANNUAL PICNIC.
The fourth annual picnic of the employees of Robert Martin; Ltd., was held at Day's Bay on Saturday. Although tho weather conditions were rather unfavourable, a very pleasant da.V' was spent by those who ventured across tho water. A. first-class programmo was run off by Mr. 1). Smith thandicapperj and Mr. It. W. Martin (starter), tho prineiplo events resulting as follow— Apprentices' Race.—Adams (gold medal), Hook (silver medal), Johns (wallot). Men's 100 yds. Handicap—Shaw, 1; Wilson, 2; Creed, 3. Girls' 100 yds. Handicaps (two races).— Misses Boyd and Dixon and Misses Perry and Martin, Boys' 100 yds. Handicap (two\ races).— Batchelor and Shakes; Martin and Willis. Married Ladies' Race.—Mrs. Smith, 1; Mrs. Auld, 2; Mrs. Boyd,- 3. Mcu'a Obstacle Race.—Adams, 1; Diion, 2; Creed, 3. Sack Race.—Dixon, 1; Adams, 2. Ladies - ' Egg' and Spoon Race.—MrsAuld, 1; Mrs. Boyd, 2; Mrs. Smith, 3. Men's Open 130 yds. Handicap.—Snellar, 1; Creed, 2. Committee Men's Race.—Smith, 1; Boyd, 2; Kendall, 3. The obstacle race drew much attention, as did a wrestling match, promoted by Mr, M. S. Martin, which was won by N. Batchelor. Tho usual football match .also proved interesting. Tho main event • —the tug-of-war for a shield presented by Mr. M.S. Martin—had to bo postponed, and Mr. Martin has arranged that it . shall be decided during tho week. Tho committee, which consisted of Messrs. R. ;W. Martin (chairman), A. Slakes, W. . Storer, W. Smith, R. Whitley, E. Boyd, i had a busy time, and carried their duties I through efficiently.
