TO-DAY'S HOLIDAY.
ANNIVERSARY DAY EVENTS. To-day is the seventy-second anniversary of the founding of the city of Wellington, and a publio holiday. There is a full and attractive programme of events, and a variety of excursions. The Wellington Racing Club will hold the .second day of tho Summer meeting at Tivntliam. Yachtsmen will be interested in the Anniversary Regatta to be held under the auspices of the l-'ort Nicholson Yacht Club. For tennis enthusiasts there will be the continuation l'rom Saturday of tho Wellington Provincial Championships at Day's iiay. 'The bowling greens will be available throughout tho day lor members of clubs, and at tho lvelburno green, a progressive tournament will be held. Athletic and swimming sports will be held at Worsor Bay, under tho management of the Seatoun Amateur Athletic Club. Members of tho Wellington Suburbs Rifle Club will liold a challenge competition for the 50-guinea "Daily Mail" Cup, at Trentlnm. The Maori will make an Excursion to l'icton, commencing at 8 a.m., and arriving back in Wellington between G p.m. and 7 p.m. Cricket enthusiasts will be catered for ill the annual match between tho Victoria and Canterbury Colleges, to be played on tho Wellington College ground. The usual holiday train and ferry services will be maintained throughout the day. In the afternoon and evening, Brennan's Vaudeville Company will appear at the Opera House; pictures will be shown at the King's Theatre,. Skating Rink, .Shortt's, the New Theatre, and the Theatre Royal; and matineo and evening shows will be civen at Wirth's Circus.
