JUDGE PARRY'S WITTICISMS.

I f ■ THE MAX WHO EDITS THE COURT OF APPKAL. Judge Parry, in proposing the toast of "Our Guest" at a. dinner given on December ■( by the Authors' Club to Sir i I'Ycderick Pollock (editor of the "Law ; Reports"), said he had a great detestation of law books. It must be a fine thing—he spoke ns a county court judge who sufl'ercd much from the courts above—to ho ablo to edit the Court of Appeal, and he said without hesitation that, it was a great thing for the reputation of the Court of Appeal (hat they had Sir Frederick there to edit them. (Applause.) Sir Frederick- was always very kind to the county court judges, for when cne was over-ruled he was always referred to. in the Biblical phrase, as "a certain judge." (Lani'litei.) He looked upon Sir Frederick as Hie better half of the Judicial Bench. It entirely rested with Sir Frederick what they were allowed to do and saw If he likei! ho could return the lord Chief Jmc tice's judgment "with the editor's compliment.*." (Lnughler.) He had a knowledge of the little'failings of the Lords Justices, i ml knew when to put (he judgments in the waste-paper basket and say, "Really, my lord, I don't think you were quite on your game yesterday." (Laughter.) Sir Frederick Pollock admitted that he had a blue pencil, but what he did with that pencil in correcting the grammar of their lordships the King's Justices, not to mention the Lords of Appeal (who were much worse), was a matter between lib blue pencil aad hiaiiseif. (Laughter.)
