MONTHLY MEETING. (By Telegraph.—Special Correspondent.! Palmerston North, January 16. The General Committee of the 'fllanawatu A. anil P. Association held its monthly meeting to-day, .Mr. A. Conwny (presidciif) in the chair. Correspondence was read from the Hereford Cattle Breeders' Association, Mastei'toii, stating that it had been decided to make a free gift to the association of Volumes 10,11 and 12 of the New Zealand Hereford books, and a copy of each future issue of the same. -Mr. J. M. Johnston wrote stating he had received a letter from Air. James Stuckey, England, informing him that the latter had secured from the Committee of Management of the English Hereford Society a challenge cup on conditions which he thought would be sarisfactory to the association. Tho cup would ho available for the 1912 show, and was for the best Hereford bull bred in New Zealand from parents whose ancestors were entered in the English Hereford herd book, (o bo won three times before it becomes the absolute propertv of the winner. It was decided that 'a letter of thanks, be written to -Mr. Sruckey. The secretary of the Kairanga County Council wrote enclosing a donation from the council of .£3 3s. "for a prize for a collection of birds' eggs. The secretary of the Wairarapa and Mest Coast A. and P. Society wrote asking the association to alter 'the date on which entries in tho art and industrial division were received, as at present the date came on the second dav of the society's show, and thus preven.efl exhibitors in tho Manawatu district from competing. The letter was referred to the Schedule Committee. Mr. T. M'Fenzie, of Carnarvon, wrote, objecting to the manner in which Iho aged Jersey bull class was judged at the recant show, nomcly,-that where tbero were only four entries, only first and second prizes were given, and no third or commended," and consequentlv two of the bulls were, in the eyes of tlie public, considered unworthy of a prize, although they had won at previous shows. It was recommended that as far as possiblo the association will endeavour to prevent a further occurrence of the kind. A discussion took place on the question of leasing the showgrounds to the miliary • authorities, the matter being brought up by a letter from Colonel Chariot', Officer Commanding the Wellington District, stating that the General Officer Commanding would not recommend the leasing of the Association Grounds unless the right of use for the military tournament was included for the sum asked by the association. Tho president stated that the military authorities had been offered the use of the grounds for .£l5O per annum, not including the military tournament. The matter w-as taken in committee, and it was decided to adhere to tho resolution of tho committee. A letter was received from the Waikato Central A. and P. Association in rcferenco to the question of reciprocal entries between the northern and sonthI em districts, and stating that the association was fully in accord with the movement, and would do all in its power to give effect to the idea. The secretary of (ho Auckland A. and, P. Association, also wrote, slating that his committee approved of the idea of endeavouring to get special trains for show stock and passengers between the Manawatu and Auckland districts, and would be glad to cooperate in any movement towards that end. Messrs S. I!. Lancaster, S. Standen, and the secretary were appointed to attend a conference on the question nt the Waikato Show. , Tho terms of the proposed agreement between Messrs. Pascal Bros, and the association for the exchange of a section of land behind the showgrounds, belonging to tho former, for a road through the Education Eeserve held by tho association to continuo Cuba Street, "wero agreed to. Ten new ordinary members and one life member wero elected. The report of the Winter Show Schedule Committee, fixing tho date of the next show for Juno 2,5 to 28 inclusive, was agreed to. Tho recommendation of tho same committee in respect to proposals brought forward by the Manawatu Poultry Society to have its show with tho winter show was also adopted. Mr. E. Short, chairman of the Wheeler Memorial Fund, reported that .£331 was in hand. Further donations to over ,£3OO were promised, and it was expected that the fund would reach .£7OO. The matter was referred to the Ground Committee to confer with the Memorial Committee as to the selection of the site on the showgrounds on which to erect tho proposed pavilion. The notice of motion given by Mr. H. Alters, that the winter show should be worked by a Special Committee as in former years, was carried, 'and the following committee appointed:—Major Bunk (chairman). Messrs. J. Balsillie. M. Cohen, II; F. Gibbons, T. I?. llodder, J. (J. Harkuess, S. R. Lancaster, 11. Llovd, 11. 1). Buchanan, H. Alters, J. A. M'Cr'en, W. M'Kenzie, F. S. M'Rca, St. C. ,louuneaux, .1. I?. Pratt, I). Pringle, A. Sutherland, D. Thomas, and R .S. Abraham. It was decided to add a prize for lucerne hay to the winter show prize-list.
